EXCERPT FROM SARAS JOURNALDecember 4, 1998

Were in The Joy Mode. Happiness is attainable for all who
are ready. Rich and I have found a rhythm and its a contented way to spend our days.
We sit across from each other at the big, heavy square table. Its a two-sided desk
for our materials and laptops. The hours pass and we work and dont speak. Then one
of us gets up and makes some food. Then we have a "conference" and discuss what
we are doing, what we want to do, what we dont want to do and that the other should
do it. Mosey is our project and we both contribute elements that are challenging to
create. We are learning and working and feeling excited at the accomplishments our
learning brings. Camaraderie blossoms in our mutual efforts.
We bask in this honeymoon. Rich doesnt get up and leave the house
for work anymore. In Vancouver, my studio was at home and I loved combining my homee and
my work. Its an "incorporated" way of life. Now there is no clock. Our
bodies are propelled by our desires.
At night we get into bed and talk and talk and talk
about what we
want for Mosey and our dreams for the trip and what we would like to accomplish with these
creative and technological pursuits. We sound our ideas and share our excitement and fall
asleep happy in each others arms.
In the morning one of us gets up and makes the mocha in the petit
dejeuner bowls and brings it to bed. We decide if it is going to be a looking around day
or a working day. There is always something to learn on both the outside and the inside.
Rich is focused now and tells me that being away is essential to this
concentration. Hes able to think solely in the moment and of the task at hand, and
not be distracted by scattered interests or feelings of obligation towards other work. He
tells me this time away is golden and I agree its a beautiful experience to free
oneself from what becomes the daily routine. To muse and thrive on new surroundings and
the possibilities of the make-shift studio. This time allows me the opportunity to develop
other creative vehicles, and to recharge my batteries for the next body of paintings. I am
enjoying the challenge of the journal and the dreams Mosey generates. Our shared Joy
Mode is inspired.
