EXCERPT FROM SARAS
JOURNAL
December 20, 1998
Arbonne, Cote Basque
Today there is a tremendous storm. The clouds swirl in gradations of
grey battling to cover a persistent blue. Wind pushes its way through holes we unaware
existed at Mendialde. Sara is reminded of Ireland again. For me, it is an alltogether
different storm. In Ireland, the sky is completely grey and the wind never ceases. This
storm is an ever changing performance. Horizontal rain, gale force gusts, sunshine and
hail are replayed over and over again.
Were changing mosey gears. I feel as though were taking a
holiday from our vacation to work on our personal projects. Its not often one gets
to work life in reverse of the traditional rat race. I find the wunderlust ebbs and flows
while adventuring. There are days when you cant wait to explore the next attraction
and there are others where you would prefer a couch and a book.
Beyond the threshold of the Cote Basque lies the religious mecca of
Lourdes and countless scenic drives through the Pyrennes National Park. We will head in
that direction once we leave Mendialde. Bob recommends staying overnight in Lourdes to
catch all of the action. This will be our final stop in France before we drive into Spain
for a little while.
The lights are flickering and have gone out. Time to get the headlamp
and flashlight out of Alfi.
