A Quiver Tree reaches for an early moon |
The evenings are cooler now (5-6 degrees
C), but it feels cold. I wear layered clothing and sleep with a blanket on. Its
great actually...I can sip tea and read a book curled up in my bed---this is as close to
perfection as i can get. Sleeping at night is much easier and the battle with the
mosquitos grows weaker as the temperature drops. Last night, at about 8:30 PM, I went
outside to fetch my laundry from the line. It was pitch black and as I stumbled back to
the house, I entered, blinking at the bright light to find Michael cowering in his
bedroom. As I started to ask what was wrong, (Note: Michael, reading over my shoulder has
just denied that he was cowering......I tend to disagree), a large form flew
by my head.....Eeeeeee! a BAT! As Michael and I danced around in nervous fright, a
learner, who had been visiting Michael, looked at the swooping bat in perfect calm. Now I
know that a bat cant hurt me, but still my rational-thinking-self deserted me and I
yelled at Wendelinus (learner)...."See that door, down the hall?? SHUT
IT!!"...pointing frantically at my bedroom door. The poor frightened bat got caught
in the corridor, with Michael and I peering around the corner, Wendelinus standing
underneath it, following it with his eyes like he was watching a tennis match and Alyson,
closed in her room yelling, trying to find out what was happening.....CHAOS!! Eventually,
Wendelinus, our hero, stunned the bat with a broom and escorted it outside....Michael and
I collapsed on the couch and tried to collect our wits. A happy ending---the bat woke up
and flew away shortly after. |
