The SARAPHINA MOSEY Guest Writers Anthology 56 Degrees Celsius By M. Faris In the year 1972 while I was completing a pipeline in the desert of Kuwait in the month of July, the temperature in the desert at about two o'clock in the afternoon approached 56 degrees Celsius. That day we were pressure testing a segment of the line. We needed to record the pressure at certain stations along the pipeline. I was driving a Jeep. I stopped near the meter station, disembarked and started towards the meter, which was about a hundred yards away .Half way there a small rock about the size of a water melon startled me by splitting into two pieces because of the heat. For the first time in my life I witnessed weathering due to heat. Spain in summer is still a paradise comparatively. |
